 The Opportunity:

In this opportunity reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager will be accountable for ensuring that all lines are running effectively and optimally, with a trained team in place at all times. The Production Manager leads by example and inspires their team to deliver top results. They are passionate about safety and promote a culture where safety comes first. They thrive in an environment that is fast paced and have a keen sense for continuous improvement. Their approach is collaborative and offers a forum where everyone feels comfortable to bring forward new ideas.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

Accountable for production costs, labour utilization, yields, results of operations and cost improvements in their production area. Develop employees through training and coaching, providing clear roles and consistent support and feedback to all employees. Foster and maintain positive union and employee relations environment by treating all employees with respect, providing timely feedback and grievance resolution. Hold employees accountable and drive performance through key metrics that are tied back to the vision. Develop and drive and strong safety culture (H&S and Food Safety). Continuously seek ways to improve manufacturing operational results and efficiencies while meeting customer expectations and minimizing waste. Develop a cohesive and competent Supervisory group, with plans for development and succession. Support Marketing/Sales with respect to new and existing product development initiatives. Provide oversight and decision making to support the Plant Manager. Optimize and ensure execution of weekly and monthly production schedules. Conduct weekly team meetings to review KPIs, FSQA, People, Reliability and CI. Apply knowledge and ensure compliance with CFIA, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, Health & Safety and other legislative bodies that impact plant performance. Demonstrate full commitment to the implementation of the requirements of the Global Standard of Food Safety and to processes which facilitate continual improvement of food safety and quality management. Share information and work closely with various leaders and functional areas (e.g. Plant Manager, HR, FSQA, Reliability and Supply Chain) to ensure production is running effectively and efficiently.

The successful candidate will be results-oriented, thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment, and have the ability to develop positive working relationships with all employees. Candidates must have: Meet/exceed Food Safety & Product Quality Metrics and requirements. Meet/exceed Staff Performance requirements. Meet/exceed Safety Scorecard targets. Post-secondary education in Operations Management or related field. 3+ years of management experience in a unionized, manufacturing environment. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Strong leadership, independent thinking, organizational and planning skills. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential. Ability to work as a team with all functional areas to support a common goal.
