Employment Opportunity: Project Assistant

Graffiti Art Programming (GAP) is a not-for-profit youth art centre that provides free art programming and mentorship to youth in Winnipeg’s Downtown and North End communities.

GAP is hiring for the position of Project Assistant. This is an 18-week position at 30 hours per week. This position is supported by the Young Canada Works Student Workplace programs. The Project Assistant will work closely with the Project Coordinator to support summer programming and art camps at community sites in central and downtown Winnipeg. The position would best fit a post-secondary student studying Fine Art or Education. The role will offer the chosen candidate the chance to develop skills in community arts programming.

Type: Contract

Rate of pay: per hour

Hours: 30 hours per week, schedule to be determined. Afternoon and evening hours are required.

Duration: August 26, 2024 – December 29, 2024

Primary Responsibilities:

Instruct and support workshops and summer camps at community sites Plan and facilitate programming for community events and festivals Art supply inventory and purchases Support Coordinator with staff scheduling and project development Creation of social media content and promotional material Promote programming through outreach to community organizations Data entry Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

Meet the requirements for a Young Canada Works Student Work Placement position: be a post-secondary student currently enrolled either full-time or part-time; 30 years of age or younger at the start of employment; a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment, and; have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. An interest in a career in the arts, with special consideration given to practicing artists or University students in Fine Art, Art History, Curatorial studies, or Education. Experience in digital and social media content creation. Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premier). Experience working with children and youth. Demonstrated skills in community engagement and ability to work in an anti-oppressive framework, with a knowledge of the barriers faced by youth living in Winnipeg’s inner city. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, reliable and demonstrated capacity to work as part of a team, the ability to take direction and to self-direct. Valid class 5 driver’s licence and access to a car is an asset The successful candidate will be required to provide a clear criminal record (with the vulnerable sector) and a child abuse registry check.
