Duties
The Impact Assessment division guides sustainable development in Nunavut by fully participating in environmental assessments pursuant to Article 12 of the Nunavut Agreement and Parts 3 and 4 of Nunavut Planning and Project Assessment Act.
The successful candidate will manage the Impact Assessment Division and lead Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canadas participation in Nunavut Impact Review Board reviews for projects across Nunavut.
This requires management of Human and Financial Resources and the providing professional support, consultation, information and advisory services with respect to Impact / Environmental assessments.

Intent of the process
Immediate need: One full-time indeterminate position at Iqaluit, NU.
This process will be used to fill current vacancies and to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) in Nunavut only, with various security requirements (reliability or secret).

The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and the online screening questions. To be selected, you must demonstrate when, where and how you acquired each of the qualifications by giving concrete examples.
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.
Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience in managing human and financial resources.
Experience in the delivery or management of programs related to impact/ environmental assessment or resource management.
Experience collaborating effectively with industry, government, Indigenous organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the public.

Experience in identifying and analyzing and advising upon regulatory requirements pertaining to impact / environment assessment, water management, or enforcement.
Experience in consulting or negotiating about non renewable resource issues with other levels of government, aboriginal groups, or other stakeholders.
Experience working in a Northern environment.
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.

Knowledge of legislation, regulations, policies or programs related to resource management or environmental protection.
Knowledge of the principles of sustainable development.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including developing and delivering presentations to various audiences.

Knowledge of the Northern biophysical, cultural, political or economic environment.
Knowledge of Canadian federal or provincial legislative, policy or regulatory responsibilities, especially related to the northern environment.
Ability to coordinate socioeconomic reviews of development proposals.
Ability to communicate in Inuktitut.
