Duties

The duties of the position range from working closely with Nunavut General Monitoring Plan (NGMP) funded project leads on the implementation and completion of their monitoring projects to working on and collecting monitoring data in order to ensure that the decision-makers in the Territory have the most up to date and accurate information available to them.

Work environment

Working in Nunavut, Canadas Eastern Arctic, is both challenging and exciting. Iqaluit has a significant number of amenities and a strong sense of community. You will be part of small but very professional team that works with researchers, universities, Inuit, Nunavut communities and other levels of government. The work that the Nunavut General Monitoring Plan (NGMP) does is extremely diverse and meaningful to the future well-being and development of the Territory.

Intent of the process

Immediate need: One full-time indeterminate position at Iqaluit, NU.

This process will be used to fill current vacancies and to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) in Nunavut only, with various security requirements (reliability or secret).

By default, and in the interest of the greater public service, pools created as a result of staffing processes at CIRNAC may be shared with other government departments.

The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and the online screening questions. To be selected, you must demonstrate when, where and how you acquired each of the qualifications by giving concrete examples.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in economics, sociology or statistics.

Note: Candidates must always have a university degree. The courses for the specialization do not necessarily have to be part of a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience as a contributing member of a multi-disciplinary team or working group with partners and stakeholders such as: other Federal Departments or Agencies, Industry or the Private Sector, or Territorial or Provincial Governments, Indigenous Organizations.
Experience participating in environmental or socio-economic monitoring activities.
Experience conducting research or analysis to support policy, legislative or regulatory options for the consideration of trends and their impacts.

A master-level degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in economics, statistics, environmental and/or socio-economic assessment or monitoring.

Experience working within a multi-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.
Experience working within a Northern environment.
Experience working within the Nunavut regulatory environment.
Experience in establishing interdepartmental or intergovernmental or community based relationships.
Experience with Northern socio or eco-systemic monitoring.

Knowledge of Nunavuts economy and the impact and role of monitoring on the economy.
Knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement and its role in monitoring environmental and socio-economic impacts.
