As a CPA Student I at Alberta Health Services (AHS) you will be exposed to a variety of accounting experience to support you in attaining your CPA designation. The CPA Student I position is a three year pre-approved program position with work terms that rotate through the Internal Audit and Finance (Financial Reporting and Treasury) departments. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be mentored and learn key financial and internal audit principles from senior team members within a strong collaborative environment. The CPA Student I will assist in executing various financial reporting, treasury, and audit and duties while obtaining “key technical competencies” required for a CPA designation including, but not limited to, assurance, financial reporting, and strategy and governance. Description:

Working primarily as part of the Financial Reporting team with appropriate supervision and support given the complexity of the assignments/tasks, the CPA Student I’s key responsibilities include: developing or evaluating financial reporting processes to support the financial reporting infrastructure, preparing and reviewing financial statements and accompanying notes, and assisting in the preparation and coordination of the external audit process. The CPA Student I will be challenged to carry out this role with increasing independence and responsibility as you progress through CPA Student I, II and III positions. Your scope of work and complexity will broaden as you learn and grow in this role towards a fully designated CPA. Key Internal Audit responsibilities include identifying, understanding and analyzing key risk at a strategic, business unit and/or engagement specific levels, assisting in designing a work plan and audit procedures, executing audit procedures, drafting findings and conclusions for audit reports, and participating in presentations to stakeholders. In addition to executing the various financial reporting and internal audit work assignments, the CPA Student I is required to: Meet the required prerequisites and eligibility to apply for the CPA Professional Education Program. Complete the CPA Professional Education Program course requirements on a continuous basis. Work towards writing the Common Final Examination within the three-year rotational program. Required Qualifications:

Completion of a college or university degree with a major in Accounting. Successful completion of prerequisite requirements for the CPA Professional Education Program.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written. Ability to multi-task and coordinate multiple priorities.Ability to work within defined deadlines.Ability to function within a collaborative team environment. Strong analytics and problem solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

Audit or accounting related work experience.
