Your Opportunity:

This unique opportunity at the SCH will recruit graduated Registered Nurses into the Critical Care program. The Transitional Grad Program is a 9-month experience where you will be paired with an experienced mentor as you work to transition into practice. Upon the conclusion of these 9 months, you are encouraged to apply for vacant nursing positions within SCH Critical Care. The Graduate Nurse will be guided by their level of education, expertise, experience, demonstrated skill level, and AHS job description, & will be supported by their mentor. To excel in a busy & ever-changing healthcare environment, the Graduate Nurse will need to be patient, calm under pressure, agile, organized, & empathetic.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $ - $ Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 ( and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (

Additional Required Qualifications:

Not currently in a regular full-time or regular part-time position with the Critical Care program. The incumbent will possess good decision-making skills, exercise sound judgement and be able to work effectively in stressful/emergencies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a necessity with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate must have the flexibility to work a rotation which aligns with their assigned mentor.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate with a Baccalaureate of Nursing within the last 3 months from an approved school of nursing. Trained in EPIC/Connect Care, Relevant acute care clinical experience or final focus placement with a similar patient population strongly preferred.
