About the School of Life Science & Business

The School of Life Science & Business provides dynamic high-tech, hands-on learning opportunities in support of animal health, business and horticulture. The School is also home to the National Meat Training Centre and the Olds College Botanic Gardens. A variety of certificates, diplomas and applied degrees are granted from the School of Life Science & Business. Fields of study offered within the School of Life Science & Business are: Animal Health, Business, Equine, Horticulture, and the National Meat Training Centre.

The Opportunity - Instructional Assistant, Business - casual, part-time

There are one or two Casual part-time positions available. Positions are for part-time evenings during the academic year (September to May). 

This position is responsible for assisting instructors in the creation of the learning environment leading to student success; preparing, distributing, or demonstrating equipment and materials; assisting students; and performing additional tasks as required. 

Key Job Functions:

Run tutorials and assist/support instructors and students in this classroom in the Business Management Programming, specifically in Economics, Accounting and Business Math.Support the delivery of Instruction by:Develop Tutorial Guides as a resources for coursesMaintain materials for student study purposesProvide in-class and lab/tutorial assistanceIn consultation with the Associate Dean the Instructional Assistant may assist in exam and practical lab assessment monitoring where the method and/or volume may be too large for the instructor aloneParticipate as a member of Instructional Support Teams and other College groups/ teamsAssist with College events, promotion / recruiting activities as requestedPlays a key role in ensuring student safety in the classroomProvide assistance to students in daily course activities and discussions within assigned programsMeets and communicates frequently with Associate Dean regarding task, project and workload prioritiesResponsible for ensuring email communication is maintained

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

Relevant post secondary training and/or a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.Demonstrated strong ability to use technology and relevant applications and platforms.Proven capability for collaborative partnership development and teamwork.Adept communication and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.A willingness to learn and/or maintain current knowledge of relevant technology is required.Strong organization and time management skills as well as an eye for detail.Must be able to process and compile information with a strong degree of accuracy.
Presents a positive, professional image and possesses strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.Displays honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of ethics in all decisions and actions.

Conditions of Employment:

Courses and tutorials run in the evenings, must be available to work between 4:30pm - 8:00pm during the week.Current Criminal Reference check that is free of any offenses.Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies.
