Duties:

VIU's Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for temporary employment in the Criminology department. We seek an experienced lecturer to teach one section of CRIM 135 Intro to Canadian Law and Legal Institutions: A Criminal Justice Perspective and/or CRIM 220 (Research Methods in Criminology) in the Spring semester. Instruction includes the preparation and delivery of lectures, assessment and evaluation of students, facilitation of students learning, and provision of student support during office hours. The successful candidate will also be expected to apply departmental norms for evaluating student learning in Criminology.

Spring 2025 (January to April term) on Fridays 10:30 to 13:30

CRIM 220 S25N01 Research Methods in Criminology
Spring 2025 (Jan-April Term) on Tues/Thurs 13:00 - 14:30

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in Criminology (or a related discipline) from an accredited university. Experience teaching research methods courses using innovative teaching practices and technologies. Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate level. Experience using a common learning management system, such as Desire2Learn, Blackboard, or Moodle.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in teaching small classes in an inclusive institutional environment. Recent experience in post-secondary teaching.
