Title of Course

VISA 3Q92   Professional Practices

Professional art practices for artists, curators, and cultural industry professionals: understanding contemporary art institutions, creating art documentation, portfolio strategies, writing artist/exhibition statements and cv, proposal and grant writing, professional networking, and other key topics related to working in the field. Lectures, seminar, experiential learning activities, 3 hours per week.

Schedule:  Wednesday 1200-1500

Delivery Method:  face-to-face

Compensation

Effective September 1, 2024 - $7, per half course (195 hours nominally)
Effective September 1, 2024 - $14, per full course (390 hours nominally)
Please note: Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article of the Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty).

Qualifications

1. MFA is required.

2. Previous teaching experience of at least two years at the university level is required.

3. Critical knowledge of contemporary practices in visual arts cultural production; major historical trajectories in 20th Century visual art; major practitioners in 20th Century visual art; experience situating their art practices as an artist-researcher is required.

4. Experience writing successful grants and proposals, creating art documentation, writing artist/exhibition statements and cv, portfolio strategies, working with galleries and other contemporary art institutions, and professional networking in a Canadian context is required.

5. Record of professional activity and exhibitions demonstrative of standing in the arts community is required.

6. Evidence of competent and effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level; and in the area to be taught are required by providing copies of recent teaching course/performance evaluations.
