Position Summary :

Expanding on their knowledge of Classical form, students will learn how the sonata form developed throughout the nineteenth century to embrace the evolving harmonic palette, changing definitions of cadence, and lyricism by studying the works of Beethoven, Schubert, Felix & Fanny Mendelssohn, and Clara Schumann, among others. Students will deepen their knowledge of musical form by exposure to various theories of form and the philosophies that influenced artistic endeavors of the nineteenth century. Students will hone their proficiency in active listening, audiation, and formal analysis by critically engaging with a variety of nineteenth century works and through detailed analytical presentations appropriate to the genre and style. Written assignments and in-class discussions culminate in a final analytical essay.

Qualifications – Required: Ph.D. in Music Theory

Demonstrated expertise in nineteenth century form and analysis.

Qualifications - Asset: Preference given to candidates with experience teaching university level theory.

Salary: $9,206.40
