The Safety Coordinator position will provide health & safety support to the Trans Mountain Safety group. This will include program development and maintenance, training development and delivery, database management, ISN contractor support, Emergency Response duties, as well as oversight of the internal safety website.

This position will be based at the Calgary Head Office location and will report to the Manager, Health and Safety.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain department processes and electronic filing systems. Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes. Maintain department proprietary and third-party databases and websites to ensure regulatory compliance (SDS inventory, regulatory compliance assessments). Maintain safety department website and the general safety department email (Trans Mountain Safety Inbox). Coordinate, develop, and issue communications on safety-related topics, such as safety alerts, newsletters. Utilize your strong analytical, and report writing skills to review leading and lagging indicator trends to develop safety management system improvements. Work with Trans Mountain Human Resources and WCB in the management of work-related injuries and approved claims. Participate in and assist addressing identified field safety issues, supporting the work of the Health & Safety Representatives Committee, and special projects and initiatives. Track reporting elements such as incidents, leading indicators, key performance indicators (KPI’s) and assist with trending analysis reports. Provide key oversight of the safety department SharePoint documents. Finalize weekly safety reports as needed. Assist in preparing annual regulatory reports. Assist with the corporate safety orientation training program for office and field. Assist in developing and updating safety procedures and standards. Provide oversight of the safety data sheet hazardous chemical audits at all locations. Perform periodic contractor inspections and assist in maintaining the annual PPE inspection program. Participate in emergency response exercises and events.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related position. College Diploma in Health, Safety and Environment (OHS or equivalent) or Business. Technical writing skills with the ability to understand verbal and written communications, including but not limited to email, OH&S legislation and industry standards (NFPA, CSA, OPR). Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft applications (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) for the purpose of word processing, spreadsheets and information retrieval. Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety is an asset. Ability to successfully organize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously, frequently under strict deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to write and present effective reports and correspondence. Operational and/or field safety experience in oil and gas is an asset. Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules. Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public. Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and high level of performance. Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
