Job Summary:

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and treatment processes in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies, and standards.

Operational duties include, but are not limited to, the operations, maintenance, and calibration of all water treatment equipment and related mechanical, instrumentation, SCADA systems, setting and monitoring chemical feed systems, VFD pumps, sample collection, analyses, etc.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Operate, monitor, and inspect plant equipment and systems to ensure that they are operating normally and within process parametersAdjust treatment process parameters to optimize plant operationsControl the water quality using online analysis devices and laboratory dataCollect and test water samplesComplete and maintain plant logs and reportsConduct daily site inspections and record observationsHelp with the installation, the assembly, and repairs to equipmentTroubleshoot and determine cause of process upsetsComplete repairs to pumps and process equipmentPrepare and adjust the chemicals required for the treatment and testing of wastewaterRead and interpret charts, flow meters, and other gauges to determine operating efficiency of equipmentAccurately track and log inventory of wastewater and treatment production valuesPerform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plant equipment, system equipment,Perform quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluate procedures and results for accuracy and determine appropriate methodsPerform jar testing and other chemical testsSafely handle chemicals such as acids, bases, polymers, etc.May perform tasks requiring the use of a respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatusConduct morning huddles daily, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks and maintain safety paperworkKeep safety at top of mind when completing all tasks

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

Experience with pumps, valves, hooking up hoses, trucks, etc. (required)Safety orientatedGood mechanical aptitudeProficiency with small toolsGood understanding of basic mathGood understanding of excel and MS WordGood understanding of wastewater chemistryMust have hands-on experience in similar field of work. (required)Able to communicate effectively both verbally and writtenAble to work as part of a team and liaison with customers and laboratory personnelTime management and self-motivationHigh School EducationUniversity or Trades degree is an assetWW Treatment Operator Training is an asset
