**Job Summary**:
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment and treatment processes in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies, and standards.

Operational duties include, but are not limited to, the operations, maintenance, and calibration of all water treatment equipment and related mechanical, instrumentation, SCADA systems, setting and monitoring chemical feed systems, VFD pumps, sample collection, analyses, etc.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Operate, monitor, and inspect plant equipment and systems to ensure that they are operating normally and within process parameters
- Adjust treatment process parameters to optimize plant operations
- Control the water quality using online analysis devices and laboratory data
- Collect and test water samples
- Complete and maintain plant logs and reports
- Conduct daily site inspections and record observations
- Help with the installation, the assembly, and repairs to equipment
- Troubleshoot and determine cause of process upsets
- Complete repairs to pumps and process equipment
- Prepare and adjust the chemicals required for the treatment and testing of wastewater
- Read and interpret charts, flow meters, and other gauges to determine operating efficiency of equipment
- Accurately track and log inventory of wastewater and treatment production values
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on plant equipment, system equipment,
- Perform quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluate procedures and results for accuracy and determine appropriate methods
- Perform jar testing and other chemical tests
- Safely handle chemicals such as acids, bases, polymers, etc.
- May perform tasks requiring the use of a respirator and/or self-contained breathing apparatus
- Conduct morning huddles daily, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks and maintain safety paperwork
- Keep safety at top of mind when completing all tasks

**Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience**:

- Safety orientated
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Proficiency with small tools
- Good understanding of basic math
- Good understanding of excel and MS Word
- Good understanding of wastewater chemistry
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Able to work as part of a team and liaison with customers and laboratory personnel
- Time management and self-motivation
- High School Education
- University or Trades degree is an asset
- WW Treatment Operator Training is an asset
