We are currently searching for aSafety/Project Manager –Construction to join our Safety Team at Emterra Group. The Safety/ProjectManager – Construction will be instrumental assisting in the establishment ofan actively caring safety culture. This role will provide leadership andsupport to operational managers and supervisors assisting with implementing andsustaining company safety programs, systems and initiatives for ourconstruction projects and also assist in supporting safety activities atcollections and processing operations. The position reports to the Director ofHealth & Safety/Risk.


Position Description 

Review andvalidate invoices related to construction projects. Monitor theprogress of construction projects. Prepare andpresent update reports on project status to stakeholders. Address andresolve any construction-related issues that arise. Coordinatebetween the internal project owner and the constructor to ensure smoothcommunication and project flow. Assist withcontractor selection, ensuring thorough safety due diligence. Assist with safety and insurance issues related to the contract. Conductupfront due diligence to vet contractors, ensuring they meet all safetyrequirements. Inspect worksites to ensure compliance with health and safety (H&S) requirements asoutlined in the contract. Handle anysafety issues that arise on the construction sites. Investigateany incidents that occur on behalf of the company, documenting findings andrecommending corrective actions. Develop andimplement construction procedures to enhance safety and operational efficiency. Support theongoing implementation and maintenance of company-wide Health and Safetyprograms to improve reliability and content. Manage andupdate the construction safety program. Supportconstruction safety activities to ensure compliance with applicable safetylegislation through the application of the construction safety and otherprograms. Supportbranch teams managing contractor safety. Maintainaccurate and complete records that meet regulatory requirements. Conductaudits on accident/incident reporting and provide guidance and assistance indeveloping and sustaining corrective action plans. Responsiblefor Health and Safety data management, including trend analysis for assignedsites. Effectivelymanage resources and applicable budgets. Participatein the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Anticipate,identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices through work siteknowledge, employee interaction, and work site inspections. Providerecommendations for correcting safety hazards and unsafe work practices. Maintainup-to-date knowledge in the field of Health and Safety with particular emphasison emerging safety trends, methods, and practices affecting ourindustry/operations. Develop anddeliver various employee Health and Safety training programs. Maintainsafety software systems as required. Reportdirectly to the Director of Risk, Corporate Health & Safety.

Skills & Qualifications

Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program auditor/implementation experience is an asset. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a health and safety role construction/project management role. CRSP designation or in the process of certification is an asset. National Construction Safety Office certification or can obtain one within 12 months of hire. Strong legislative expertise with respect to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Proven ability to coach and influence. Ability to work independently. Proven ability to bring projects to conclusion. Experience working with management in both unionized and non-unionized environments. Experience with safety committees regarding auditing, training, and implementing best practices. Participation in Safety Groups. Proven track record in designing and delivering safety training; great presentation skills. Excellent command of the English language (both verbal and written). Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Experience in the waste industry, transportation or manufacturing are definite assets. This position may be based out of our Oakville site with frequent travel to our other Canadian sites; flexibility to travel is a requirement for this position.
