About the Position
Our Candiac facility is currently looking for a Stationary Engine Mechanic to join our Maintenance team. It is a permanent full-time position of 40 hours/week, on a 5-day schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with mandatory availability for service calls 1 week / 2. The employer usually offers 1 hour of overtime per day.
The Stationary Engine Mechanic will keep all equipment in working order according to the required standards, respond to maintenance calls, and provide support for preventive maintenance and breakdowns, according to the needs of the workshops, including the various equipment of the thermal power plant. They will install and maintain machinery and equipment using hoists, forklifts, hand and power tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform the work according to established safety rules

Contribute to the maintenance, improvement and operation of the various equipment of the thermal power plant, in order to ensure the supply of steam, process water and compressed air to the plant and Water cooling: 2 x 100HP compressor, 1 x 75HP compressor, 2 x kettle, 'York cooler', 5 x cooling tower

Contribute to the maintenance of certain heating and ventilation equipment, as well as any other production equipment throughout the plant

Participate in problem solving to improve equipment and maintenance activities

Monitor and ensure the receipt of the various raw materials required for the operation of the thermal power plant

Enter daily variables into our transaction database

Make recommendations for equipment modifications or upgrades to improve machine reliability and performance

Interpret equipment schematics and documentation

Demonstrate a strong attitude as a team collaborator while being able to work independently with minimal supervision

Respond to emergency service calls, weekdays and weekends, when required by operations

Read and document work order interventions

Required Skills and Qualifications

A high degree of mechanical skills

In-depth knowledge of occupational health and public safety program standards

Knowledge of standardized industry procedures, practices and concepts

Be familiar with the operation of Biogas/Natural Gas boilers, air conditioning/ventilation systems, compressors

Experience with cylinder machines, blowers, conveyors and safe assembly practices, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, working with metal parts: cutting, grinding and welding

Creative problem solving

Possess good learning skills

Able to work within time constraints

Responsible, autonomous, reliable and able to adapt to various working conditions

The candidate will need to have good troubleshooting skills through close attention to detail

Computer literacy, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is essential

Education or Work Experience

DEC in mechanical techniques (minimum 3 years of experience) or a recognized apprenticeship program of vocational studies (DVS) whose main concentration is industrial mechanics combined with 10 years of experience

Possess a Class 3 Stationary Engine Mechanic qualification

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a reliable and prompt response to maintenance calls. They will need the ability to climb stairs, lift certain loads (up to 30 kg), work standing or sitting for long periods of time, work in confined spaces, work at heights, not suffer from vertigo and be able to bend or kneel to reach certain rooms. The candidate will need to be able to work in a variety of environments that may be low or high temperatures or in locations requiring a respirator.
If required, the candidate will be required to attend company-sponsored training and will be required to accept overtime work. They will be required to consent to work on shift rotations or on statutory holidays as required. They must demonstrate an intense interest in accomplishing tasks and achieving expected results.
