Peerwriting tutors work with clients (mostly NAIT students) on improving writingskills via one-on-one appointments, group appointments, and drop-in tutoringsessions. Tutoring may occur virtually or in person in the NAIT Writing Centre.

KeyResponsibilities:

Help NAIT students from all program areas understandwriting assignments and develop and plan writing processes, including: Organizing ideas, developingarguments, and creating strong thesis statements and topic sentences.  Integrating primary & secondarysources.  Review essays, research papers, lab reports, and othertypes of writing for flow, clarity, and conciseness. Coach students to adopt effective writing andself-editing strategies. Discuss Canadian writing conventions and academicexpectations with international and multilingual students. Visit classrooms and promote the Writing Centreservices.

Skills& Abilities:

Writing, research, and communication skills. Ability to assess student tutoring needs. Ability to interact effectively with diverseindividuals and groups.

Qualifications:

Successful completion of at least one semester of courseload at NAIT with a GPA of 3.75. Must be registered in NAIT courses throughout theemployment. Tutoring experience of up to 12 months at apost-secondary learning/writing center is an asset. Experience working with ESL/EAL students is an asset. Equivalencies may be considered.

Remuneration : $15.00hourly, plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay (Classification– Tutor I).

Thisposition is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)Collective Agreement.
