Peer Writing Tutor

**NOTE: This position is limited to NAIT students only.**

Peer writing tutors work with clients (mostly NAIT students) on improving writing skills via one-on-one appointments, group appointments, and drop-in tutoring sessions. Tutoring may occur virtually or in-person in the NAIT Writing Centre.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Help NAIT students from all program areas understand writing assignments and develop and plan writing processes, including:

- Organizing ideas, developing arguments, and creating strong thesis statements and topic sentences.
- Integrating primary & secondary sources.
- Review essays, research papers, lab reports, and other types of writing for flow, clarity, and conciseness.
- Coach students to adopt effective writing and self-editing strategies.
- Discuss with international and multilingual students about Canadian writing conventions and academic expectations.
- Visit classrooms and promote the Writing Centre services.

**Skills & Abilities**:

- Writing, research, and communication skills
- Ability to assess student tutoring needs.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups

**Qualifications**:

- Successful completion of at least one semester course load at NAIT with a GPA of 3.75
- Tutoring experience of up to 12 months at a post-secondary learning/writing center is an asset
- Experience working with ESL/EAL students is an asset
- Equivalencies may be considered

**Remuneration**: $15.00 hourly, plus 12% in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation pay (Classification - Tutor I).
- This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
