Plains is seeking a qualified journeyperson to fill the position of Electrical/Instrumentation Technician in the Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, area. Reporting to the Area Supervisor, the successful candidate will ensure that all equipment at our stations, terminals, and gathering systems is managed to the highest degree of reliability for the operation in accordance with company standards, policies, and procedures. A background in automation and PLC programming is key to success in this role. #plains

Responsibilities:

Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and commission electrical equipment such as instrumentation, motor control centers, motors, switchgear, VFDs, MOVs, HVACs, and other electrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner; Install, program, and commission various PLCs, communications equipment, and HMIs; Inspect and test the operation of instrumentation and systems; Provide electrical support and maintenance to ensure system reliability; Develop and execute equipment lockouts; Provide technical input and scope development for Operations, capital projects, and turnarounds; Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and complete test and maintenance reports; Complete all written and electronic records (i.e., work orders, calibration sheets, time entry, material requests) required to document work in progress and completed; Consult manufacturer's manuals, circuit diagrams, and blueprints to create test and maintenance procedures; Maintain facility records and update drawings as required; Maintain focus on safety, complete all required safety and technical training, comply with OHS regulations, and accept responsibility for own safety performance; and Provide on-call support during non-business hours for emergency response and maintenance break-ins.

Qualifications:

Certified Interprovincial Journeyperson—Instrumentation Technician, Industrial Electrician, or Electrician—dual ticketed as an Instrumentation Technician considered an asset; PLC programming experience; Gas plant, refinery, pipeline, and/or oilfield experience; Experience with maintenance management systems (e.g., Maximo) considered an asset; Thorough understanding of applicable codes of practice, regulations, and standards; Demonstrated capability with Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, and Excel); Strong written/verbal communication skills; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as with a variety of individuals in a busy field environment; Permanent residence within 100 km of the Sherwood Park office; Cleared criminal history (background) check and satisfactory reference checks; Compliance with the company’s Drug & Alcohol Policy; and Valid Driver’s License with a clean abstract.
