Clinical Educator

The Clinical Educator is essential in addressing the comprehensive needs of all patients within the Regional Renal Kidney Care Program. The Clinical Educator provides expertise, support, orientation and competency-based skill development for clinical and support staff to promote safe, quality care for patients of the Regional Kidney Care Program. This role collaborates with interprofessional program teams and Quality Experience Leaders in implementing evidence-based practices to achieve clinical program objectives. The Clinical Educator models clinical excellence and core competencies while advancing practice through learning and development, integrating education and best practice evidence, and fostering critical thinking and analysis.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
•Role model OSMH Mission, Vision and Values in alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives
•Act as an expert resource to support frontline care delivery that meets established standards
•Engage in feedback, coaching, and mentoring of practice for frontline staff
•Provide education and support to our Regional Renal Satellite partners.
•Facilitate skill development, practice growth opportunities, and a positive learning environment for the interprofessional team
•Support Preceptors and Post-Secondary Educators to provide safe, relevant clinical student learning experiences
•Provide education opportunities to address: clinical performance audits and learning needs assessments, quality improvement initiatives and practice changes
•Provide subject matter expertise to the development of controlled documents (e.g. policies, procedures, standards of care, order sets, medical directives) for the Quality and Interprofessional Practice portfolio and Regional Kidney Care program
•Educate, demonstrate, and monitor clinical skills, at the bedside and in the Simulation Lab, incorporating clinical competence models (e.g. Benner, Miller, Halstead)
•Design, deliver, and evaluate exceptional and innovative learning experiences for new hire onboarding and continuing education to maintain/advance practice
•Provide subject matter expertise to product trial/evaluation and supply chain decisions through lenses of patient safety and evidence-informed practice
•Support education initiatives related to the hospitlal’s Quality Improvement Plan, Strategic Plan and Accreditation process
•Liaise with and contribute to regional initiatives and external professional organizations
•Engage in ongoing professional development and continuous learning
•Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership of the Regional Renal Kidney Care Program
Qualifications
Education:
•Undergraduate degree in nursing, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required with a graduate degree in Nursing, Education or related field preferred
•Member in good standing of the College of Nurses of Ontario required
•Continuing education or certifications appropriate to area of responsibility required:
•Coronary Care I and II
•BCLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, S.T.A.B.L.E.
•ENCC, TNCC, PEARS
•Central venous access devices
•GPA or equivalent
•Preceptor Education Program
•Quality Improvement processes
•Adult learning principles (e.g. TATA)
•Indigenous Cultural Safety
Experience:
•Minimum five (5) years of clinical work experience within the acute care continuum with strong clinical content knowledge, critical thinking, and professional judgement required.
•Specialty area experience (e.g. Emergency, Critical care, Kidney care, Paediatrics) preferred
•Coaching, mentoring, and leading individuals/groups to achieve quality outcomes preferred
•Working knowledge and appreciation of the following is preferred:
•OSMH Quality Framework
•OSMH Incident Management process
•Regulation and standards, including but not limited to HCCA, RHPA, Mental Health Act, TGLN, Coroner’s Act, Accreditation Canada
