Requirements and Nature of Work:

The Institute for Science, Society and Policy (ISSP) is offering a research and professional development opportunity for a doctoral candidate interested in science policy (ideally nearing completion of their studies). As a Graduate Fellow of the ISSP, the RA will help support the inaugural year of a unique multi-disciplinary knowledge mobilization initiative that convenes academic researchers with policy, industry and civil society leaders to produce an edited book on science, society and policy relations for publication in spring 2025. The Graduate Fellow will also support content and event planning for the Institute’s 2024-2025 academic year (blogs, lecture series, panels, etc.).

The position is open to students from any discipline who have a demonstrated interest in advancing understanding of the connections among science, society and policy. It is an ideal opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in science, technology and innovation policy, and will help them develop an understanding of and broad-reaching network in Canada’s science-society-policy ecosystem.

Minimum requirements:

Candidates must be PhD students, ideally at the dissertation phase.
Candidates must demonstrate:
• advanced facility with qualitative research methodologies
• experience with literature searches and retrievals
• strong academic and plain language writing skills
• strong computer skills and experience using MS Office
• strong interpersonal and communications skills
• strong organizational, administration and time management skills
• the ability to work in a team


// Experience with organizing workshops or small group events is an asset.
Fluency in French is an asset.

Work location: Campus and distance
