Corporate Training Services of Durham College is a proud provider of quality training services to numerous types of organizations both small and large including multinational corporations, manufacturers and government agencies.  Our client-focused approach allows us to design training programs that are customized to deliver the results our clients need.

We are seeking an innovative and business-minded individual as the Director of Corporate Training Services to lead our full-time and contract team members in continuing to exceed both existing and new corporate customer expectations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Innovation and Research, the Director of Corporate Training Services develops and manages targeted annual budgets, oversees training projects to ensure mandates are met and budgets are effectively controlled, and ensures that all clients are extremely satisfied with promised deliverables. Specifically, this includes the following:

Vision and Strategy:

  • Develop and maintain a long-term vision and multi-year strategic plan
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of key innovation and corporate training trends and market advancements
  • Lead ongoing new products and solutions for the corporate training market, supported by a strong business case
  • Develop opportunities for new revenue generation in collaboration with Durham College’s research centres, and in particular, the AI Hub Technology Access Centre, as well as other areas of the college

Sales, Marketing, and Business Development:

  • Direct revenue growth activities for securing new and renewing customer opportunities and customer contracts
  • Lead large, complex sales multi-million-dollar initiatives inclusive of demonstrations, presentations, RFPs, bids, deal engineering, pricing, and negotiation
  • Drive brand awareness in the market
  • Attend key industry events, deliver industry thought leadership presentations, source sales channel partnerships
  • Engage in regular networking activities with local Durham businesses, industry, government and industry associates

Financial Performance and Governance

  • Develop and manage a multi-million-dollar annual operating budget while ensuring margin targets are met
  • Ensure customer contracting, vendor contracting, RFPs, quotations, purchasing, invoicing, refunds, revenue recognition, e-commerce, expenditures, credit cards, risk registers, capital expenditures, financial reporting and tracking, government grants, forecasts are complete, accurate, and in compliance with college policy and standard regulatory financial practices

Organizational management

  • Recruit, mentor and manage staff within a unionized environment, monitor employee performance, and direct high-performance teams in conducting business development  
  • Develop and implement strategies that promote an equitable, inclusive work environment
QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Business Administration

• A minimum of twelve years of related and progressive management experience

• Excellent understanding of college operations and policies, including contract training, applied research, and the post-secondary landscape

• Sound knowledge of technical training programs, standards, regulations, and funding

• Solid understanding of adult learning design and delivery principles (particularly in workplace learning settings)

• The ability to effectively manage people and resources, and lead inclusive teams

• Experience with the creation and management of large, complex budgets

• Unwavering commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion

• High degree of conceptualization, analytical ability, initiative, independent action and presentation skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills including report and proposal writing skills at an advanced level

• Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills combined with a good understanding of Collective Agreements

• Strong project management and team management skills and abilities with a strategic mindset

• Excellent organizational, monitoring and assessment skills including proficient use of computers and MS Suite software

• Knowledge of external community and critical sectors within the regional economy

• Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle to enable attendance at events and meetings
