Senior Underwriter, Financial Institutions

How does this role contribute to our collective success?

The Senior Underwriter, Financial Institutions will act within established guidelines and market to analyze, review, evaluate and monitor new and renewal accounts for highly complex policies for public & private banks, insurance companies, hedge funds, investment advisors, and other financial institutions. Solutions included management liability, professional liability insurance and ancillary lines. Senior Underwriters exercise independent judgment in processing accounts, and manage underwriting activities typical hold a Underwriting Authority and manage/develop a book of new and renewal business.

What will you do in this role?

Underwrite and manage an existing book of Financial Institution business in adherence with company policies and processes

Developing new business and grow the business profitably

Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase AXIS’ market presence

Identify target markets and develop relationships with existing and potential brokers

Develop internal relationships with other profit centers and distribution staff

Work to become proficient in other related insurance products offered by AXIS

Participate in development of overall strategy and assist in implementation of strategic measures

Assist in implementing new products and developing process improvements 

Provide guidance and feedback on underwriting practices to junior members of the team

Maintain up to date knowledge of industry trends and developments

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

About You:

What you need to have:

3+ Years’ experience in specialty insurance.

Understanding of risk management principles with an ability to analyze data and provide insights 

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)

Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skills and knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures

Experience should include ability to assess company financials, analyze stock metrics, manuscript forms and manage individual portfolios

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Excellent negotiation skills and strong marketing abilities

Team player mentality

Strong presentation skills

Strong basis of financial analysis

Strong policy language analysis skills

Proven marketing abilities and established relationships with brokers
