Your Opportunity:

The incumbent provides professional nursing care to patients and their families, consistent with the philosophy, objectives, and standards of Cancer Care Alberta – Alberta Health Services. This position is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of an oncology nursing plan of care. The nurse works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to provide safe, comprehensive, and individualized care. The incumbent must be able to work in a high pace change environment and maintain many different certifications. Duties include: assisting with fast-paced medical oncology and malignant hematology clinics. Administering advanced systemic therapy medications (with specialized training) to adults; responding to hypersensitivity reactions and patient events; assisting in the management and treatment of side effects of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapy in person and through virtual communications. Additionally, providing patient navigation and support for symptom control, emotional support, rehabilitation, patient education, cancer prevention, early detection, and research activities. Physical demands include lifting, pulling, pushing, walking, standing, transferring, and transporting clients and equipment frequently.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $ - $ Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 ( and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must demonstrate a keen interest in all aspects of oncology nursing. Recent adult critical, acute, emergency and/or ambulatory oncology experience is required.Excellent assessment and proven intravenous therapy skills.Must demonstrate strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; the ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships is key.Must demonstrate strong critical thinking skills and have the ability to work both independently, and collaboratively, within a multidisciplinary team.Proficient in Netcare and Connect Care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Canadian Oncology Nursing Certificate is considered an asset.The Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course (PSCB) is considered an asset.Familiarity and certification in the use of IV Infusion pumps, port-a-caths, central venous lines, and home infusion pumps.
