REPOST POSITION PURPOSE Reporting to the Program Manager, Traffic Safety this position is responsible for undertaking road safety audits, analyzing data, preparing reports and making recommendations; investigating and responding to road safety inquiries; communicating with the general public and stakeholders; assisting with the implementation of new policies; and providing technical support to meet the Branch objectives.

PROJECT WE ARE WORKING ON:

This position will have the opportunity to work on the Traveller Safety Plan; a Region-wide and leading-edge road safety strategic plan. The Traveller Safety Plan builds on some of the Region’s existing road safety programs, such as Red Light Cameras, Automated Speed Enforcement, speed monitoring boards, speed reductions in school zones and SLOW DOWN Campaign. York Region’s road safety programs are designed to increase safety and help to influence positive changes in traveller behaviour.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Carries out road safety audits and identifies improvements to maximize the effectiveness, efficiency and safety for all road users on the Regional road network.
• Assesses, analyzes and monitors traffic operations and flows along the Regional road network and recommends changes to optimize road safety.
• Investigates road safety inquiries and develops recommendations in compliance with accepted traffic engineering principles and practices.
• Prepares and coordinates the preparation of background data to assist and defend insurance related civil liability claims.
• Prepares specific and annual traffic data reports for other Departments, organizations and the general public in compliance with the Branch operating plan, the Region’s capital construction program, outside agencies and local Municipal projects.
• Coordinates vehicular and pedestrian traffic data input to maintain a complete and comprehensive database of the Regional road network.
• Liaises with other adjacent transportation and enforcement agencies to ensure the uniformity of transportation operational policies and the collection and exchange of traffic related data.
• Attends public and agency meetings to present information on results of the road safety program.
• Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.


QUALIFICATIONS


• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in traffic engineering environment and operations including technical analysis.
• Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
• Demonstrated knowledge of traffic control devices, pavement marking standards and signs.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, traffic bylaws and policies.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret technical data and provide recommendations.
• Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
