Position Summary:

TheDirector, Scholarship of teaching and Learning is focused on establishingGeorge Brown as a leader in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).The definition of SoTL is: The rigorous, systematic investigation of questionsrelated to teaching and student learning, including dissemination of findingsto the broader teaching and learning community. The purpose of SoTL is toadvance the field of teaching and learning through innovation, experimentation,and evidence-informed practice, in order to build collective knowledge andongoing improvement.

Under thegeneral direction of the Associate Vice-President, Teaching and Learning, theDirector, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning will provide cross-collegeleadership in advancing and advocating for activities related to SoTL. Suchactivities will include: developing a framework for faculty engagement in SoTLresearch; advising faculty within Communities of Practice on the processes,ethical implications, and methods of SoTL; management of funding and processesto support teaching innovation projects, organization and oversight ofopportunities for knowledge dissemination, including conferences, scholarlyjournals, and other related outlets; support in the initiation of a GeorgeBrown College peer-reviewed scholarly publication; and managing staffassociated with the area.

Key Responsibilities:

Develops processes, policies, and procedures to support faculty engagement in SoTL, including oversight of proposal development, training, deployment of resources, and ongoing support for faculty engaged in SoTL research projects.
Develops resources and assessment tools to support faculty development.
Works with other George Brown staff to advance SoTL across the organization.
Educates faculty and academic leadership and develops training and orientation materials on George Brown’s processes.
Plans and implements knowledge dissemination opportunities for faculty, both internally and externally, including conferences, scholarly publications, and other related outlets.
Oversees institution-wide SoTL research projects.
Supports the college’s commitment to evidence-informed practice through oversight of scholarly teaching within the academic division.
Liaises with internal and external partners to ensure ongoing support and success of SoTL initiatives, and to position George Brown College as a leader within the sector.
Other related duties as assigned.

Educationaland Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree and PhD from a recognized post-secondary institution in relevant field of study.
Minimum nine (9) years’ experience as an educator (education and development, teaching), preferably at the post-secondary level.
Previous experience in faculty development is considered a strong asset.
Completion of independently conducted SoTL research projects, or related experience.
Experience with the scholarly peer-review and publication process considered a strong asset.
Extensive research experience and strong publication record in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
Knowledge and experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
Experience in training and development and coaching as well as change management.
Knowledge of and experience in administration, management, budgeting, human resource development, conflict resolution and meeting management.

Skills and Attributes:

Ability to translate strategic priorities into specific goals, processes, frameworks, and tactics.
Excellent teaching and curriculum development skills.
Knowledge of the college community, unionized environments, and administrative infrastructure.
Understanding of academic research principles and processes.
Proven ability to work under pressure to meet frequent deadlines; flexible, adaptable, and responsive to change.
Able to travel between campuses.
Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
