About the Opportunity

Commercialization, Technology Transfer & Research Group Development

  • Secures relationships with internal innovators and researchers to make them aware of commercial potential for their research, both present and future, and guides inventors through invention disclosures, confidentiality issues and conflicts of interested considerations and provides guidance on opportunities related to entrepreneurship.
  • Identifies and cultivates commercialization opportunities for intellectual property.
  • Creates technical briefs for existing intellectual property for marketing said intellectual property.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for generating revenues to support new projects and initiatives.
  • Assist research groups to develop short, medium and long-term strategies and business plans for development and securing resources.
  • Facilitate and develop research activities within clinical services units.

Industry Liaison

  • Cultivate institutional, government and industry partnerships that lead to financial synergies and/or investment in research and innovation at NS Health.
  • Facilitate partnerships between research groups and other innovation partners, with special emphasis on the private sector and innovative solutions.
  • Liaison between research groups and potential partners and sponsors.
  • Develop and implement partnerships between research groups and clinical units to further expand research at NS Health.
  • Work with internal and external partners to identify and act on business development opportunities for NS Health, the province of Nova Scotia and companies.
  • Support the identification of new solutions, services and products needed by departments and units at NS Health.

Strategic Planning, Special Projects & Business Operations

  • Liaise with Legal Services and other leaders and corporate services units to ensure processes, procedures, policies and legal agreements meet organizational requirements and objectives.
  • Maintain best practice infrastructure that optimizes the delivery of services and the project management of implementations.
  • Coordinate contracting and project management; oversee financial arrangements that support business development partnerships and multi-source major initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of strategic products and services that aim to transfer the way care is delivered.
  • Provide liaison with external agencies, government, institutions, research teams and collaborators.

Communication and Stakeholder Relations:

  • Work with partners and team members to develop and resource a communications strategy to establish national prominence for Research & Innovation, NS Health as the largest hospital-based research center in Atlantic Canada and for the regional academic health network.
  • Coordinate communications with government relations with respect to research and innovation, in the context of the broader government relations in NS Health.
  • Promote and support relations with philanthropic organizations such as the QEII Foundation and Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation, with respect to research and innovation.
  • Facilitate research and innovation collaboration between NS Health and other health science institutions such as universities, other health authorities and hospitals.
  • Maintain relations with government bodies and industry stakeholders and partners.
  • Provide creativity and input to the development and execution of a strategic communications, marketing and rebranding plan.
About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 5-10 years professional experience in business ad- ministration, business management, marketing, or a related field.
• Proven experience in strategic planning for research enterprises, particularly in public institutions.
• A minimum of five years’ experience in research administration.
• Experience in the academic environment is essential.
• Proven track record in pursuit of major research funding, partnership-building and investment attraction.
• Preferred experience in government relations.
• Experience in managing multi-stakeholder initiatives and projects and with stakeholder liaison and management.
• Experience in the local health sciences research environment is a definite asset.
• Business planning and budget management experience.
• Experience in project management principles and implementation would be considered an as- set.
• Demonstrated knowledge of policy impact and development.
• Knowledge of health care organizations and the health sector.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships and interact with all clients in scope.
• High level of competence in both written and verbal communication.
• Experience working with diversity of staff and stakeholders, with knowledge of cultural competence, diversity and social inclusion.
• Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and monitor quality and performance indicators and benchmarks related to the workforce.
• Sound knowledge of information systems and financial management.
• Skills and experience in promoting learning cultures that nurture equity, diversity and inclusivity with a focus on intersectional values, analysis, and actions, clinical humility, and the responsible use of power and privilege.

Hours

This is a full time, long assignment from May - April

Compensation and Incentives

$36.34 - $45.42 Hourly / $70, - 88, Annually

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. (Permanent Long Assignments Only)
