Director of Project Delivery - Commercial GC

Salary: $180K+ Bonus
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for overseeing complex construction projects and delivering exceptional results? We are representing a rapidly growing engineering and construction firm in Southwestern Ontario, specializing in the planning, design, and build of advanced manufacturing and logistics facilities for the global food and pharmaceutical industries. Our client is searching for a Director of Project Delivery to lead their Project Delivery and Field (construction) programs and teams, ensuring top-notch project planning, management, and execution.
About the Role:
The Director of Project Delivery will be a key member of the Operations Management Team, reporting directly to the President. This leadership role is essential for driving project success, maintaining high standards, and ensuring project teams are well-supported and held accountable. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of strategic thinking and hands-on expertise to guide project teams, optimize processes, and deliver profitable results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and Inspire Teams: Provide inspiring leadership and support to project delivery teams, ensuring a high level of performance and engagement.
- Financial Oversight: Provide financial oversight and direction at the program and project levels, and ensure timely and accurate project reporting.
- Monthly P&L Meetings: Conduct monthly project review profit and loss (P&L) meetings alongside the Finance team to ensure projects remain on track.
- Talent Development: Assess, develop, and mentor project delivery team members, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide direct and constructive feedback.
- Effective Communication: Communicate project delivery team needs and capabilities to the President and other Operations Management Team members.
- Annual Business Planning: Actively participate in or lead annual business planning activities to support company growth.
- Project Kick-Off Collaboration: Collaborate with Sales & Pre-Construction teams on the development and initiation of new projects.
- Issue Mitigation: Anticipate and resolve vendor, client, consultant, and regulator issues to prevent or mitigate escalation.
- Technical Guidance: Provide technical assistance in all aspects of projects, including scope interpretation, contract management, and site management.
- Cost Management Training: Offer hands-on training for Project Cost Management to team members, focusing on ECAC, job costing, budget codes, etc.
- Resource Management: Identify and address resource and skill deficiencies within the team.
- Recruitment: Partner with HR to recruit talented individuals to strengthen the team’s capacity and capability.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- A strong drive to lead, win, and capture market share according to strategic plans and priorities.
- Proven success in leading profitable projects and teams while delivering high client satisfaction.
- 15+ years of experience in all major facets of project delivery, with expertise in both Greenfield and Brownfield construction projects.
- Experience managing multiple projects ranging from $2-12 million, and several projects in the $12-80 million range.
- PMP certification is highly desirable.
Additional Skills and Responsibilities:
- A well-established network of ICI trades and vendors within Southwestern Ontario.
- A robust network of Project Executives (PXs), Project Managers (PMs), and Project Coordinators (PCs) for future recruitment needs.
