AXIS Insurance is a world leader in specialty lines insurance, including professional liability within the Canadian market. We are seeking a talented and dynamic claim professional to join our Canada Claims team as a Senior Claim Specialist. This position will provide specialized technical claim handling for primary and excess liability claims under our General Liability, Design Professional, and Environmental policies. 

In addition to making determinations with respect to nature of loss and scope of coverage, the Claim Specialist will actively manage/collaborate with external counsel to drive claims toward resolution. This role is ideal for a motivated, curious, and technically proficient lawyer or claims professional who possesses the requisite initiative and pleasant demeanor to work in a team setting and to provide support and guidance to internal and external clients such as insureds, brokers, underwriters, operations, and third-party administrator (“TPA”) partners.

What will you do in this role?

Analyse liability and damages issues in connection with primary and excess claims including maintainingappropriate documentation

Analyse insurance coverage issues, draft coverage letters and communicate positions to insureds and brokers

Manage external adjusters and counsel, and collaborate with Insureds in the defence and resolution of claims

Settlement negotiation

Evaluate full pending of claims in connection with the posting and maintaining of accuratereserves

Maintain and develop relationships with brokers, risk managers, general counsels, and a variety of vendors

Provide data and analytic based-informational support to underwriters

Provide support to underwriters with respect to marketing efforts, policy wording, and trending discussions.

Provide oversight, supervision and guidance to TPA adjusters on behalf of AXIS

Ensure prompt payment of losses and vendor invoices

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

What you need to have:

Previous experience handling claims, litigation, or related experience in a legal or multiline insurance environment

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, interact with others,meet deadlines, and successfully perform in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

Great attention to detail, an open mind, and a penchant for customer service

Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills

Bachelor’s degree 

Law degree or CIP designation
