Job Summary

Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Faculty of Medicine (FoM) is a research-intensive faculty that thrives on research excellence, strategic partnerships, and stakeholder engagement. Reporting to the Faculty’s Associate Dean (Research) and to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Programs, Office of Research Services, the Research Facilitator advises on and assists the FoM research community with the life cycle of the research endeavor. The Research Facilitator (RF) is responsible for facilitating research applications to and awards from external funding agencies and promoting external research funding opportunities to the Faculty of Medicine research community.

Key Responsibilities

Reviews and advises on how to strengthen FoM researchers’ grant applications, with a particular focus on Tri-Agency. Provide substantive feedback on project plans, budgets, in-kind contributions, schedules and milestones. Works in coordination with Dalhousie’s Office of Research Services staff to facilitate the review of applications, confirmation of institutional commitments, and other requirements as needed to support the submission of competitive research applications Provides strategic counsel to the Associate Dean, Research, and other senior faculty leaders on research-related issues and activities. Supports the development of outreach sessions and delivery of information to the faculty and university to promote relevant funding opportunities, with a particular focus on the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Liaises with Dalhousie’s Office of Research Services staff to facilitate coordination of research administration and embeds inclusivity principles in their work and actions.

Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field plus approximately five years’ related experience in research administration or related environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience). Excellent organizational and time management skills to deal with the high volume and interdisciplinary setting, and to adapt to changing priorities. Must have strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with various stakeholders. Has participated in equity, diversity and inclusion training, especially in relation to research.

Knowledge of the research funding environment including funding programs, research funding agencies and practices, and functions related to research and research administration.
