Within GIBEx, the Global Commercial Reporting and Data Excellence team is responsible for the management and governance of key commercial data and the creation of platforms that enable successful brand performance management by senior commercial leaders.

Candidate Focus and Challenge

AstraZeneca has a need to enhance the utilization of high quality, trusted data in order to accelerate achievement of our Bold Ambition of getting 20 new medicines to patients by 2030. The Director, Commercial Reporting Platform Owner will be an analytics product manager who in a matrix structure will lead the agile product team and focus on value delivery of the analytics platforms. They will be setting a strategic vision for how data will be consumed on the analytics platforms and how the key consuming teams including but not limited to senior commercial leaders and global teams will be able to derive value and insigths from the data. They will need to work closely with global marketing teams and global insights and analytics teams to ensure they drive development aligned with the brand strategic goals. 

The role will be responsible for the development and management of the reporting and analytics products used to consume and interact with Brand Performance and Customer Engagement data. It will report to the Global Commercial Reporting and Data Excellence lead. Although the role does not have any direct reports, the successful candidate is expected to be leading cross-functional teams from Global Commercial IT and Global Commercial Operations and collaborate very closely with the Data Product Owners to deploy successful global commercial analytics products. The data domains that will be included are (a) Pharmaceutical Secondary Data including retail/hospital sales data, (b) Health Care Professionals’ engagement data and (c) Internal Financial Datal. The successful candidate is expected to have delivered reporting and analytics products in large organisations.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver & run analytics and reporting products supporting Global Commercial teams and senior Commercial leaders. The Commercial Reporting Platform Owner will drive forward the strategy and vision for the overall product in collaboration with senior Commercial sponsors.

Set the vision and strategy for the products, guided by a clear understanding of business value and customer needs

Identify and solve strategic issues to make the product development team succeed at speed.

Lead the cross-functional agile delivery teams in Global Commercial IT and Global Commercial Operations and set clear strategic direction by clarifying priorities and rational.

Understand business needs and users’ needs to shape the processes, solution and prioritize improvement needs across different stakeholder groups.

Deliver high-quality, hypothesis tested, business requirements, functional specifications, business processes, and system rules.

Deliver effective prioritization regarding the products’ backlog items in order to deliver maximum outcome with minimum input in line with business priorities.

Manage dependencies in and across releases to complete release phases and breakthroughs.

Lead the risk management framework and report risks to advise senior collaborators on areas for attention and solutions.

Influence key senior partners and provide clear & concise advice including recommendations to aid good decision-making.

Provide coaching & mentoring for colleagues and assist with their personal development.

Ability to manage a cross-functional product development and deployment process, including teams of people with diverse skills to perform the needed tasks

Comfortable operating in a heavily matrixed organizations with excellent communication skills and intuition to handle the needs of various stakeholders.

Solid Project and / or Product management skills, including managing vendors, budgets, timelines and risks.

Experience leading or working on agile development teams

Excellent leadership, communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to make data-driven decisions

Ability to rapidly grasp concepts and to manage complexity by simplifying it for others and providing clear directions to delivery teams.

Desirable for the role

Master’s or PhD in a scientific or technical discipline.

5+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical industry with strong knowledge of Commercial Processes in the Pharmaceutical market and the diverse sources of information that support, inform and assist in commercialization of pharmaceutical products.

Familiarity with the latest research and thinking and understanding of dynamics affecting the commercial side of the pharmaceutical industry and needs for transformation.

Experience using AI/ML to combine data from multiple modalities in the pursuit of novel insights

Understanding of and experience with developing and delivering “Explainable AI” solutions.

Familiarity with data science, data visualization, and reporting concepts

Ability to work globally including international travel.
