Responsibilities

Read blueprints or technical diagrams Terminate, splice, and install a variety of fiber optic connectors, closures and enclosures including both loose tube fiber and ribbon fiber Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter, and OTDR Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber, effectively and efficiently Perform aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber, Installing splice closures, and performing cleanup work Perform underground construction activities, including but not limited to, pulling new cable/fiber through conduits, digging up and repairing damaged conduit and underground vaults or pedestals Responsible to pull a splice trailer, operate a bucket truck and set up traffic on roads and highways Responsible for updating and maintaining project tracking information (daily production sheets, timesheets etc) Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential

Qualifications

Must have OSP and ISP fiber optic splicing experience OSP: Splicing underground and aeriel fiber, building splice closures, entering hand holes and hanging splice closures from overhead line. ISP: Inside terminations, installing fiber termination panels, OTDR and power meter testing. Must know how to operate and read test results from OTDR and power meters Should be knowledgeable and able to use fiber optic hand tools such as: Fiber strippers, Ring tools, Fiber identifier, Ribbon splitter, Cleavers Ability to manage a physically demanding workload Obtain confined space training Familiar with site safety practices

Physically demanding workload Ability to work in confined space Work location: Work in locations that preclude the ability to return home Work hours: various shifts as assigned (morning, evening, weekend, and statutory holidays) Excessive travel is required
