The Opportunity:

The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a WorkMethods Specialist – Electric Utility . The WorkMethods Specialist is responsible for researching and developingprocedures and field training to ensure the work procedures reflect industrybest practices, standards and legislative requirements. This includes observingcrews, identifying gaps, creating/updating safe work practices as well as,identifying innovative approaches, new tools and equipment to facilitate thecompletion of work in an efficient and safe manner. The Method’s Specialistwill be responsible for developing, executing, tracking, and documenting thesafety and training activitiesof EL&P personnel to ensure competencies aremaintained.

The role willbe required to establish and maintain working relationships with internal andexternal contacts, including frontline staff, contractor’s and other utilities.With the authority of asafety codes officer, the Method’s Specialist will reviewcontractor’s safe work procedures to ensure alignment with establishedstandards and expectations. This role will also be a stakeholder involved insupporting the supervisor complete investigation of workplace incidents, as asubject matter expert, to assess the need for or updating of safe workpractices.

As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

Valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate. Minimum of 6 years working experience as a Journeyperson PLT in Distribution. Valid class 5 Driver’s License. SCO (Safety Codes Officer) or ability to obtaincredentials. Strong understanding of Distribution power systems andhow work is performed in the field. Ability to communicate effectively with field crews,discuss safety issues and facilitate the safest way to perform work. Ability to network with other utilities and / orvendors to research industry best practices. A thorough understanding of the risks involved inperforming utility work, coupled with a practical approach to controllinghazards and ensuring crew safety. Ability to develop written training material toreinforce key principles. Ability to teach and present to technical employees. Ability to summarize training and tooling requirementsfor management, enabling them to make and facilitate budget and purchasingdecisions. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office softwareincluding Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

$66.31 to $69.07 per hour (As per theIBEW Local 254 Collective Agreement)

Hours of Work:

80hours biweekly; Monday to Friday; some evening andweekend work may be required when needed.
