**The Opportunity**:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for an **Archives Specialist**. The Archives Specialist is responsible to conduct acquisition, preservation, information management, reference, processing, and outreach work on behalf of the Archives.

The Archives Specialist primarily conducts the day-to-day work of acquisition, arrangement, description, and provision of records of enduring value that have historical, evidential, legal, and financial significance to the community and/or The City of Red Deer. The incumbent makes certain these records are preserved in perpetuity and are accessible to stakeholders. This work is done in adherence to municipal, provincial, and federal legislation and Rules for Archival Description (RAD) standards in order to safeguard those records which document the activities of the community and The City.
- Bachelor’s Degree (History or Library Science preferred) PLUS 2 years’ experience in a recognized archives PLUS course work in Archival Studies (such as university classes, provincial archives society courses, or the ASA Archives Institute).
- A Masters in Archival Science or equivalent degree would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of current archival, records management, and information management principles, practices and techniques including a working knowledge of RAD, access, privacy and copyright legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research and to synthesize and interpret information, communicating the results in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to be accurate and to use judgement in making decisions and providing advice to retain credibility and public confidence
- Ability to work independently or in a team situation in a collegial atmosphere.
- Ability to take action on an initiative within given guidelines.
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with current office suite and photograph editing software.
- Knowledge of digital preservation principles.
- Knowledge of archival database creation and management

**Remuneration**:
$43.70 to $46.00 per hour.

**Hours of Work**:
75 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.
