Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director, the Social Work Manager functions as the first-line professional lead and a resource person who provides leadership to all social work activities of Social Workers in the Mental Health & Recovery Program. The Social Work Manager safeguards standards of culture-sensitive, inclusive, nondiscriminatory client and family centered services by guiding, mentoring, and working collaboratively with the organization’s Social Workers.

Additionally, the position is responsible for the delivery of gender specific, trauma- informed care for the Mental Health & Recovery Program clients who have experienced homelessness, severe addiction, mental illness, trauma; family, cultural and community disconnection, involvement with the criminal justice or forensic system, and physical health and behavioral issues. The Mental Health & Recovery Program integrates the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation, harm reduction, motivational enhancement, strength-based framework, gender centered relational and trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based practices that facilitate clients’ recovery and aim to improve clients’ ability to function in all aspects of life. 

Typical Duties:

Serve as a resource person to all Social Workers in the Mental Health & Recovery Program. Provide direction regarding organization-wide events and initiatives facilitated by Social Workers in the organization Conduct psychosocial assessment of clients and families and interpret the information using a variety of modalities in accordance with professional standards and clinical practices. Provide ongoing support and assistance to clients with complex psychosocial issues and evaluate clients’ response to the employed interventions. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, coordinate scheduling and facilitate the Interdisciplinary client progress reviews and provide information regarding clients’ psychosocial circumstance and progress.  Participate in developing comprehensive plans of care with and for clients in collaboration and consultation with other community professionals / service providers.  Promote client autonomy by ensuring their participation in planning and decision making. Act as an advocate to protect and promote clients’ rights and autonomy, respect, privacy, dignity and access to information. Act as a resource for clients and their families by providing information regarding community resources; facilitate access to these resources. Participate in quality improvement activities by providing input into the development, implementation and evaluation of the program’s goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Assist in the development and provision of relevant educational programs for staff, clients, their families and community agencies on psychosocial issues related to health, disability, culture, cultural safety, community living, etc. Coordinate and facilitate programs related to clients’ community living and integration Coordinate and facilitate family and other care providers’ engagement in clients’ recovery efforts. Work with Aboriginal and other culturally-centered service providers to enrich the organization’s programs with culturally relevant and sensitive elements. Plan, coordinate, and deliver educational sessions to clients and their family members, and other service providers regarding mental health and substance use services. Coordinate client referral and admission processes, and facilitate discharge planning and discharge process. Collaborate with all Social Workers and members of the Mental Health & Recovery team; offer support and expertise, and provide clinical supervision, when requested. Maintain written clinical records according to established standards. Maintain a safe environment for clients, staff and others by adhering to established protocols, procedures, and standards. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work plus at least three (3) years of recent Social Work experience. Eligibility for registration with the Board of Registration for Social Workers of the Province of British Columbia. Valid First Aid Certificate ("Emergency First Aid - Community Care" or equivalent), Ministry of Justice Criminal Records Clearance Training in Crisis Management. Food Safe Certification TB Clearance and a Medical Certificate for fitness. Access to a vehicle and valid B.C. Driver’s License. Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination

 Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Demonstrated ability to conduct social and psychosocial assessments. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of counseling skills and clinical practice models. Ability to provide leadership to the interdisciplinary team in care planning in complex client situations. Ability to work effectively with others, including working effectively in a multicultural environment. Ability to work independently in a highly complex environment. Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team, and understanding the scope of practice of Social Work and other health care disciplines. Strong collaborative skills in working with other community agencies. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families, other professionals and members of the health care team and community agencies. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a complex environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict. Ability to facilitate group meetings, processes, and decision making Ability to work tactfully, collaboratively, and diplomatically with others. Computer skills and knowledge of software applications. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence related to the work. Ability to maintain favorable public relations with stakeholders, including funders, other service providers, and Indigenous Community representatives. Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive and personal information

Salary Range: $95,000 to $110,000

The Pay Range is the minimum and maximum annual salary based on full time equivalent hours.

Incumbents are typically hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on their knowledge, skills, abilities and experience in relation to the role requirements.

The top 10% of the pay range is for the incumbents who are industry experts in the job with the combination of exceptional experience and competencies needed to perform all duties and responsibilities at a superior capability level.
