Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre is the home of AHS’ community-based supervised consumption site (SCS). The SCS services are part of a range of evidence-based services that support prevention, harm reduction and treatment for Albertans living with substance use challenges. SCS provides a place where people can use drugs in a monitored, hygienic environment to reduce harm from substance use while offering wrap-around services such as, social work and referrals to services such as treatment ( opioid-dependency treatment, detox).Under the direction of Safeworks Management, the Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse is responsible for providing interventions within a harm reduction model. The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse will be responsible for comprehensive physical and mental health assessments, critical thinking and problem solving, delivery of harm reduction supplies, interventions and education ( overdose management), de-escalation techniques, naloxone distribution, and referrals to other health & social services. As the RN/ RPN, you will interact effectively with diverse populations including gender, cultural, sexual and socio-economic, particularly the unhoused and people who use drugs. You will also have the opportunity to take on Charge Nurse responsibilities. Safeworks is a pioneer in facilitating access to comprehensive care for vulnerable populations. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $ - $ Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 6 months working as a RN/RPN in emergency/urgent care, forensic psychiatry, mental health, or correctional services.Knowledge and experience working with both diverse and vulnerable populations.Working with a multidisciplinary team.Knowledge and experience with harm reduction-based theories and practices.New graduates may be considered if final focus was in harm reduction, emergency/urgent care, forensic psychiatry, mental health, or correctional services

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. Addictions and Mental Health experience.Previous experience as Charge Nurse.Previous experience in harm reduction and overdose response.Working with diverse and/or marginalized populations, particularly the unhoused and people who use substances.Knowledge of problems encountered by Indigenous people in using health care services, and of health care systems providing care to Indigenous people.
