Position Overview

You're a seasoned leader with a knack for defining, identifying and driving opportunities for trades training. Your understanding of regulations, certifications and safety standards coupled with your experience in fostering collaboration to understand business needs set you apart.

As a senior manager, skilled trades training, you'll be at the forefront of transforming how we approach skill and competency development for our field workforce. Reporting to director, employee experience, this position takes accountability for providing strategic leadership to the effective development and execution of trades learning and training.

In this role, you will:

Work collaboratively with various levels of business partners and key stakeholders, including our Operations leadership team, to create and deliver a skilled training roadmap, comprised of in-house and external training programs, that sees us achieve immediate organizational priorities while focusing on future-proofing our workforce.  Build and maintain external relationships with regulatory bodies, educational institutions, industry stakeholder, compliance agencies, training partners, other utilities and other sources of training organizations. Ensure all trades training programs comply with relevant regulations, certifications and safety standards. Take the lead in guiding a team of professionals to proactively anticipate, develop, manage, and deliver trades training programs. Additionally, you'll serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, offering guidance to address the diverse learning needs of our workforce across various business units and operational areas. Maintain fiscal responsibility by managing the budget allocation and reporting for training programs, optimizing resource utilization to maximize program effectiveness and return on investment.

What it takes:

A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from an accredited university, plus a minimum of eight to 10 years of recent and related experience in trades training and adult learning within a leadership capacity. An equivalent combination of education, related training and experience may be considered. An elevated strategic thinking mindset, and a demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs that align with corporate strategies and meet business needs. Exceptional communication and leadership skills to engage with stakeholders across the business as you design programs and solutions that guide us toward excellence.

What you need to know:

Travel will be expected as part of this role.

In this role, you will have the option to participate in a flexible work program, enabling you to work from an approved flex location in British Columbia up to 85 days a year (equivalent to approximately two days a week), subject to business or operational needs.
