The Intermediate Industrial Designer is responsible for providing product design solutions, while also providing limited guidance to the Junior Industrial Designer. They are responsible for managing the design activities, documentation, communications and deliverables related to the stage gate development process within a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Contribute to the definition and execution of the product design solution of new products, and to ensure its compatibility, portfolio fit, while considering innovation, and meeting PDO requirements.People
Contribute to the advancement of professional practice of the industrial designers, design interns, and assist in the training and integration of new employees to the department. Provide guidance to internal and outside design resources to ensure both the program requirements (deliverables, schedule, etc) and the design requirements (portfolio integration, aesthetic refinement, product integrity, etc) are met. Development team and Design Management
Client and Sales assist interface
Provide hands on new product and planning application support to sales/clients, and act as a representative of the design department as part of the Teknion client experience and research as guided by design management.Documentation
Communicate and demonstrate all aspects of the product design through a series of different media appropriate to the stages of development including: sketches, renderings, development models, CAD models, and (printed) documents and presentations. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Development
To provide insight and decisions on all design related issues in the cross disciplinary development discussions to collectively solve new product issues including manufacturability, function, appearance, product application, CMF, product offering, testing, installation, etc. To function with limited supervision in executing the assigned projects, including decision making, working with outside consultants and Product Management. To develop new products through a systematic process of stage gate activities and deliverables according to a predetermined launch schedule.What is required for this role?
Bachelor of Industrial Design degree. Solidworks 5-10 years work experience as a practicing Industrial Designer. Furniture/systems design experience a plus. Design related research and analytical skills. Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills. Excellent problem solving capabilities. Both a technical proficiency and an aesthetic aptitude. Proficiency in current software tools for CAD (Solidworks), visual communication (Photoshop, Illustrator), and communication (Microsoft Office, and Google suite), and time management. Soft model, mockup, and visual model making capabilities. Knowledge of current prototyping methods and technologies and how to most effectively integrate them into model making. Sketch or think on paper in order to solve detailed design problems. Experience in designing for office space planning and ergonomics requirements a plus. Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes and impact on design. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and provide guidance to Junior designers. Ability to work effectively in all phases of product development, from concept definition through technical development, production details and post launch product support. Work with limited supervision, seeking support and guidance from fellow team members and design management as needed. Provide guidance to the junior designers, including overseeing tasks and setting deliverables and deadlines. Work effectively with outside Design and Engineering resources, such as: Industrial Design contractors, CAD contractors and researchers. Interact with outside clients and participate in presentations and research activities.NOTE: As part of your application, please include two examples of projects that demonstrate the full design process.
