What is the opportunity?
As the Design Risk Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective identification, assessment, and mitigation of project risks throughout the design process and lead the risk management process throughout the design phases of engineering projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in risk management principles and practices, an understanding of engineering design practices, and a passion for delivering projects that meet both technical and safety standards. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to identify design-related risks and implement proactive mitigating measures. This is a key role in maintaining the reputation of Entuitive as a trusted partner within our client and consulting engineering community.
- Risk Identification & Assessment: Identify, assess, and track risks in a comprehensive project risk register from project initiation and throughout the project lifecycle including risks associated with project execution, technical requirements, financial management, design development, operations and maintenance requirements, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Risk Mitigation: Together with the project design team, develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and action plans, such as design modifications, process adjustments, or alternative solutions to reduce or eliminate design risks, including monitoring their effectiveness and recommending any necessary adjustments. Ensure that all risk mitigation activities are tracked and evidenced in the risk register and aligned with the project design goals and objectives.
- Collaboration: Work closely with multi-discipline teams, including project managers, engineers, financial analysts, sub-consultants, clients and other external stakeholders, to ensure risk management practices are integrated into the design and review processes.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure that design risk identification and mitigation practices comply with industry regulations, guidelines, codes, safety standards, and in accordance with best practices.
- Communication: Communicate risk management policies and procedures to all relevant project stakeholders and facilitate risk workshops and training sessions to promote a risk-aware culture at Entuitive.
- Risk Reporting: Prepare detailed risk reports with metrics and KPIs, and presentations for senior management, clients, and project teams, that provide updates on project risk status and mitigating actions.
- Training & Mentorship: Provide training and guidance to project team members on risk management principles and practices, fostering a collaborative risk-aware culture within the project team and Entuitive.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, risk management tools, and best practices, and recommend improvements to risk assessment processes and systems. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and proactive risk management.
Requirements
What do you need to succeed?
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Candidates with professional certifications such as CRMP, PMI-RMP, RIMS-RMP, CSP, FRM, PRM, PMP, P.Eng are preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in design risk management, with at least 10 years in the consulting engineering industry. Experience with assessing and managing risks in projects that upgrade or re-develop operational rail and transit stations is preferred.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management plans that identify and quantify project risks and their root cause and prioritize resources to control the most critical risks that threaten successful delivery of project scope, schedule and budget while also detailing strategies for capturing possible opportunities enhancing the project’s success.
- Experience with developing and managing Risk Registers that track and detail risk types, risk root causes, impacts to the public, client and stakeholder assets or interests, health and safety, operations and maintenance, and project scope, costs, and schedule with corresponding mitigation requirements and the responsible mitigation owner.
- Proficiency in the use of risk identification techniques as well as qualitative and quantitative risk analysis and risk monitoring and reporting tools and software such as SWIFT methodologies, Risk matrices, FMEA, FTA, ETA, PRA, Monte Carlo Simulation, Oracle Primavera Risk Analysis, Primavera P6, and DOORS.
- Strong knowledge of risk management standards and guidelines such as ISO 31000 and ISO 31010, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, BS-6160-1, NEBOSH, CDM2015, MODSafe, and FTA Guidelines.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to collaborate with the client and across design teams and stakeholders, and with various Entuitive departments and offices.
- Excellent communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with internal teams, external consultants, clients, the public, and stakeholders.
- An analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities and a keen eye for detail.
- A passion for proactive design risk management and mitigation.
