Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides expert knowledge to advance care and meet the needs of residents/patients and families, specifically for mental health - these activities include but are not limited to: suicide, violence, and risk assessments, mental status examinations, crisis assessments and managing aggressive behaviour and de-escalation techniques Act as an expert and resource for the interdisciplinary team and provide specialist support to the patient, their family or support network to actively explore the clinical issues and ascertain the need for medical/psychiatric intervention and management.  Monitors local Ontario Health, Ministry of Health & Ministry of Long-Term Care standards and relevant legislation/regulations for compliance and collaborates on strategies to address shortfalls Collaborates with program leadership to ensure the implementation and sustainability of exemplary clinical practices, specifically in mental health Assumes a leadership role within the program and the interdisciplinary team to develop solutions/service delivery models and new models of care, in collaboration with the program leadership team to provide exceptional patient/family care. Encourages and modeling critical clinical inquiry that drives the development of nursing research and improves patient care Collaborates and contributes to the improvement of patient safety and risk management issues including the development of improvement plans to optimize clinical outcomes based on best available evidence and efficient utilization of resources

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

Master’s degree in Nursing is required Current Certificate of Competence in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario (‘CNO’) is required Three (3) years recent geriatric experience and experience in a Mental Health/Psychiatric services environment required Experience in adult education/curriculum development and delivery Advanced Crisis Intervention and Counselling Certificate or Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) and/or related certifications an asset Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) Superior communication skills and ability to communicate effectively to direct and motivate team and others, maintaining a persuasive and credible presentation style at all levels of the organization Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels Ability to distill complex information into clear, concise messages Ability to influence others and able to establish credibility with all levels of the organization, challenging the status quo and being a catalyst for positive change Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills Ability to manage multiple, often competing priorities. Demonstrated effective critical thinking, analytical, decision making and problem-resolution skills Demonstrated expertise and ability to apply, teach, coach and mentor individuals and teams
