The Department of Medicine and the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is looking for a locum cardiologist with a clinical focus on Heart Failure and Transplantation with a start date of July (negotiable).
The successful applicant would join a group of 43 cardiologists at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). UOHI is a large tertiary centre providing cardiovascular care to Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is Canada’s largest and foremost heart health centre. It employs over 1, physicians, nurses, researchers, technicians, allied health professionals and more. The Institute handles more than , patients yearly from across Canada.
The Ottawa Hospital is a bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute, and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside). There are approximately 50, inpatient admissions, , emergency visits and over one million outpatient visits annually.
The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is TOH’s research arm. It ranks fourth out of more than Canadian hospitals for competitive, peer-reviewed grants from the prestigious Canadian Institutes of Health Research. OHRI houses over 2, researchers, publishing more than 2, studies yearly, with hundreds being high impact publications (top 10% or citations) and places 5th overall in Canada for research funding.
The Department of Medicine is a research-intensive Department. Members currently hold 28 University Research Chairs. The Department receives approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and members publish approximately peer-reviewed publications annually.
The Faculty of Medicine is a nationally recognized leader, ranked among Canada’s top-tier medical faculties. The Faculty ranks 3rd in Canada for research intensity in Medicine/Science (Maclean’s) and 4th in Canada for citations ( THE rankings). ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant would join a group of 4 advanced heart failure doctors, comprising the service at UOHI. The applicant would be expected to provide in-patient ward service for heart failure patients, participate in out-patient clinics, and participate in teaching medical students and residents.
QualificationsThe successful candidate must hold an MD degree, FRCPC certification in Cardiology and have completed an advanced HF/transplant fellowship. Candidates must be a member of, or be eligible to be a member of, the Canadian Medical Protective Association, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario.
The University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital are bilingual institutions and therefore in the case of potentially successful candidates of equal ability, a bilingual (French/English) candidate would be preferred.
Job BenefitsThe income for this position is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service), salary support (AFP) as well as honorariums/stipends.
