New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

Position Reports To: Dam Safety Lead
Position Overview:
New Afton Mine has an exciting opportunity for an Engineer-in-Training to gain exposure to multiple tailings storage facilities, industry-leading tailings deposition and water management technologies, and tailings-related projects.
The initial responsibilities for this role will focus on dam safety inspections and engagement with our Engineer of Record teams on the satisfaction of their recommendations. This is a field focused role and will provide observations to the tailings leadership team to make informed decisions toward dam safety and future projects. The successful applicant will be dedicated to safety, high attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. This role will be a part of New Afton’s Engineer-in-Training rotation program with future opportunities within the tailings team including tailings deposition, water management, project management support, and regulatory engagement or other departments on site depending on the business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Dedication to safety leadership and environmental stewardship; Lead daily toolbox meetings with key stakeholders; Ensuring communication of significant observations to senior engineers; Regular inspection of site tailings storage facilities and reporting of findings; Support and documentation on completion of tailings storage facility safety recommendations; Engagement with the Engineer of Record teams on field observations and associated follow-up actions; Liaise with other New Afton departments, contractors, and consultants; and Other duties as required.Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mining, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering or other related fields Registered or eligible to register with EGBC Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Tailings or other mining experience is considered an asset.Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada Provide confirmation of valid educational requirementsCompensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $74,000 to $85,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
