New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

Position Reports To:  Processing Manager


Position Overview

Supervises and co-ordinates the production crews responsible for operation of the mill, tailings, and related facilities in accordance with company objectives and procedures and is responsible for meeting commitments in tonnage and quality, waste removal, reclamation, equipment and manpower utilization and budget/cost control.

Key Responsibilities

Dedication to ensuring that the department, supervisors, and crews follow our five operating priorities in the following order: Protect the People Protect the Environment Protect the Equipment Make it run Make it run well Ensure the department is upholding safety, environmental and operational standards Proactively work with others within and outside the Department to develop and actualize opportunities, prevent future problems and solve existing problems to minimize their impact and likelihood of recurrence Enable direct reports and hold them accountable to fulfilling their roles Spend significant time in the field – “visible felt leadership” – interacting with the workforce. Promote incident prevention by leading with a pro-active mindset, driving risk assessments, incident investigation to root cause identification and analysis, and disposition of non-conformities resulting from unplanned incidents or identified risks arising from mill operations. Identify and make changes as needed in the weekly, monthly and quarterly operations in order to balance job tasks and responsibilities between teams and team members while optimizing results Be a driver in the site budget, forecasting and cost management processes Ensure compliance with all production schedules and ensure supervisors are able to meet and hold them accountable to achieving production targets safely Support resource planning - mill shutdown, operator training, vacation and overtime Work with the Maintenance personnel to prioritize planned maintenance tasks. Support and develop initiatives that will improve safety, environmental performance and production methods Align department to work together Ensure training and certification of operators is efficient and productive Ensure that their supervisors’ initiatives for safety, operational efficiencies, maintenance and housekeeping are supported Accountable for INX reporting : Ensure that supervisors enter and report INX events within reporting deadlines Ensure that investigations are thorough and actions reduce the likelihood and severity of future events Ensure that INX events are closed out timely with all required fields complete

In addition, the successful candidate will possess:

Interprovincial trades ticket, Engineering, or other technical degree or certificate in a related field Minimum 10 years experience in mining or mineral processing Minimum 5 years experience in a supervisory or other leadership capacity Experience and ability to lead daily meetings and align support service teams on daily priorities High degree of knowledge of Health Safety and Reclamation Code for mines in BC as it relates to all areas of mill and tailings operations Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook Access). Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems such as SAP is essential Safety oriented with an ability to encourage team members to recognize and mitigate hazards High mechanical aptitude and ability to safely identify opportunities for improvement

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $140,000 to $160,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
