The team 

The Office of the Registrar (RO) contributes to Toronto Metropolitan University’s bold vision by providing the bedrock of innovative systems and structures required to build a world-leading institution. Every member of the university community is an RO client. The RO is involved in the entire academic experience of the student body from admission through to graduation, providing reliable support through a wide range of services and safeguarding the integrity of the university’s policies and student records. We provide expert guidance to academic leaders regarding student recruitment, admissions, student financial services, student fees, new programming initiatives, transfer credit, course offerings, grading processes, scheduling, academic policy and curriculum management.

The Opportunity

The Assistant Director, Curriculum Management & Academic Engagement, is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and strategic advice to ensure that curriculum and academic requirements are delivered to students and presented accurately in the university’s official undergraduate calendar and related publications. This role oversees the execution of equitable standards for graduation and ensures the academic integrity of Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) programs by adhering to Senate-approved curricular structures. The Assistant Director coordinates with campus stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of policies and procedures, while facilitating data-driven continuous improvement in support of student success. Additionally, this role provides leadership and direction to the Policy and Academic Engagement Unit to ensure consistency with established objectives, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

Completion of a post-secondary degree in business administration or a related field.  A minimum of 6-8 years of progressively responsible experience in a leadership and management capacity in an academic setting. Experience with curriculum implementation, the interpretation of complex policies and curricular structures and with process review and improvements, Experience facilitating, designing and leading group consultations. Experience managing staff in a unionized environment.  Strong understanding of academic governance. Comprehensive knowledge of Ontario, Canadian and International post-secondary systems. Knowledge of curriculum structures, university programs, procedures and systems. Demonstrated knowledge of the student experience and student development theory. Strong research, analytical, planning, organizational and administrative skills. Sound decision making and problem solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong leadership, management, supervisory skills and the ability to lead high performing teams. Effective time management and creative problem solving skills. Excellent communication, including verbal, written and presentation/public speaking skills. Strong interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy. Conflict resolution skills. Ability to work with ambiguity and regular change. Knowledge of end-user computing tools, such as spreadsheets, and word processing applications. Knowledge of PC software, web-publishing, and a general understanding of relational databases.
