The Opportunity - Resident Assistant

As a crucial member of the Residence Services team, RAs will have a direct impact on students and their experience in residence. You will regularly plan, facilitate, and organize a variety of programs and events that best serve student needs and interests. You will support students through their transition into university life. You will also have the opportunity to be both mentored and challenged in a way that will set you up for success in your future career. Time management, leadership, communication, and conflict mediation skills are among some of the transferable competencies you will gain from this experience. Contract Dates: as soon as possible - April 18th, 2025 (Subject to Change) Salary: $15.00/hour Time Commitment: 17.5 hours biweekly 

Key Job Functions: 

Supervision of Residence Community

Acts as an upstander in the campus communityUnderstands and upholds the community living standards and Olds College code of conductPossess knowledge of residence operations, campus and community resources and be able to inform and direct students appropriately.Bring feedback from students forward to inform decision making and operational planningAssists residents in making connections on campus and making them feel part of the community 

Programming

Plan, execute, and support residence-wide events to suit the needs and interest of students.Create bulletin boards and other passive programs during specific times of the year.Contribute ideas to the biweekly programming calendar and work with other RAs to brainstorm proposalsPromote and advertise events within residence and the broader college community.Work collaboratively with departments outside of residence on supporting campus-wide events. 

Meeting and Training Sessions

Attend all staff meetings and training sessions, including:Weekly Team Meetings (typically held on a weekday evening)Biweekly meetings with the Residence Life CoordinatorThe entirety of Winter Training (first weekend in January)All other training sessions as assigned by the Residence Life Coordinator

Administrative

Assist the Residence Services team with September and January move-in daysProvides support to the front desk: answering questions and queries, retrieving email etc.Respond to all work related inquiries and correspondence related to the roleSchedule office work hours to address student concerns and support urgent residence tasks.

Education and Experience Requirements:

You must be enrolled as an Olds College student, with priority given to programs that run from September-AprilMust maintain at least a 2.3 GPA throughout the yearPrevious experience working in a team or leadership role is an assetFirst Aid certification is an asset

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

Ability to work independently and as a member of a teamDemonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrates excellent problem-solving and decision making skillsDemonstrates strong interest in supporting the communityDemonstrates flexibility and willingness to support students and members of the Residence Services team.Demonstrates commitment to learn and grow new skills, such as conflict mediation and technology.

“Blackout dates” are specific dates and events where attendance is expected and/or required

First Semester

● LEAD Conference: November 1st - 3rd, 2024

● Mental Health First Aid Training: A full weekend in November (dates to be determined)

Second Semester

● Winter Retreat: January 2nd-4th, 2025

● January Move-In: January 5th, 2025

● Frost Week: January 6th-10th, 2025
