Description:

As a Clinical Genetics Technologist (CGT) I, you will perform and interpret routine and complex testing for various genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques according to established procedures. You will also participate in results entry into the laboratory information system (LIS), report generation, quality control, proficiency testing, lab safety procedures, literature review, test method evaluation, and document writing. Other duties include but are not limited to maintaining lab equipment and supplies, training students and fellows/residents, participating in accreditation activities, and pre-analytical testing processes including accessioning.

Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics. Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification in Clinical Genetics may be acceptable as anequivalent to an advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics. Experience in human cytogenetic processing and analysisincluding proper use of ISCN nomenclature and specialized computer imaging platforms for karyotyping and FISHanalysis. Experience with tissue culture techniques. Proven critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning, anddecision making skills. Strong attention to detail as well as superior organizational and time management skills with abilityto prioritize work and deliver accurate work under stressful conditions. Demonstrated ability to deal with conflicting andchanging priorities, deadlines, and duties. English fluency with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical knowledge of appropriate methodology and testing techniques applied in a molecular genetics/ moleculardiagnostic laboratory. Two years of recent experience in a diagnostic genetic laboratory performing cytogenetic ormolecular genetic testing and interpretation. Five years of experience with cancer chromosome and FISH analysis.Experience with next generation sequencing.
