About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Genetics Technologist I to join our team at the Diagnostic Scientific Centre. As a member of our cytogenetics and genetic diagnostics laboratory, you will be responsible for performing routine and complex testing for various genetic conditions using molecular and cytogenetic techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret results from routine and complex testing for genetic conditions
  • Participate in results entry into the laboratory information system (LIS)
  • Report generation, quality control, proficiency testing, lab safety procedures, literature review, test method evaluation, and document writing
  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies, train students and fellows/residents, participate in accreditation activities, and pre-analytical testing processes including accessioning
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree plus advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics
  • Active or eligible for registration with College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA)
  • Certification in Clinical Genetics may be acceptable as an equivalent to an advanced diploma in Clinical Genetics
  • Experience in human cytogenetic processing and analysis including proper use of ISCN nomenclature and specialized computer imaging platforms for karyotyping and FISH analysis
  • Experience with tissue culture techniques
  • Proven critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning, and decision making skills
  • Strong attention to detail as well as superior organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize work and deliver accurate work under stressful conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with conflicting and changing priorities, deadlines, and duties
  • English fluency with exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is estimated to be between $38.56 and $51.27 per hour, based on industry standards and location.
