Alberta Transportation has awarded Aecon with a $595 million contract for the Deerfoot Trail Improvements project, located in  Calgary, Alberta . Construction will consist of seven new bridges, additional lanes, and improvements to ramps and interchanges. Construction is scheduled for completion by fall of 2027.

The Design Student will help the Traffic Manager develop traffic control plans, construction sequence and other highway design requirements for the Deerfoot Trail Improvement Project located in Calgary, Alberta. This is 12-month co-op placement come September 2024 .


Key Responsibilities

Complete design calculations and drawings that satisfy all the applicable code and regulation requirements. Assist in the preparation of schedules, estimates and construction packages. Conduct surveys and worksite visits of project area. Assist with permitting requirements, submissions and reviews. Support with the preparation of reports regarding the status and results of completed and in-progress design projects. Prepare technical reports as required by the client and project team. Utilize various design software and tools. Liaises with clients, contractors, field staff. Performs other duties as required.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, or Transportation. Previous internship experience with Autodesk applications such as Civil 3D/AutoCAD Strong organizational and time management skills. Proven people and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals. Proven ability to take initiative and leadership. Strong problem-solving skills.
