Position Overview

You're someone with an analytical mindset who approaches their work with a hunger for innovation. You’re digitally savvy and have a technical curiosity to explore, create, and transform.   

 

As Engineer, Operations, you'll ensure all technical engineering work is completed in compliance with B.C.’s Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS), our strategic vision, core values, and leadership competencies. Reporting to the engineering supervisor, compliance, this position focuses on supporting Operations to ensure safety, reliability, and system integrity.

In this role, you will:
  • Conduct independent inspections within a clearly defined scope, such as specific variables, regulations, and locations, to ensure compliance with B.C. MRS requirements impacting System Operations and Engineering. 
  • Take the lead on providing engineering recommendations for corrective actions, develop and maintain processes and documentation, and assist with broader scope inspections to uphold compliance standards.
  • Perform in-depth analyses of data for system outage events and prepare technical reports on your findings. You’ll collaborate with Engineering, Vegetation Management, and Operations to recommend corrective actions that enhance system reliability.
  • Provide technical direction and support on operational issues, outage coordination and scheduling, project scope development, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Real Time Contingency Analysis (RTCA), water management, vegetation management, reliability, and protection schemes.
What it takes:
  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university, plus a minimum of four to seven years of recent and related experience in system operations, protection, generation, transmission, or distribution engineering.
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with Engineering and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
  • An equivalent combination of education, related training, and experience may be considered. 
  • Strong analytical and technical skills as you correlate and analyze data, and report on findings. 
  • A proven track record in compliance analysis, implementation, and measures. 
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills to engage with internal stakeholders as you work to enhance system reliability and meet standards.
