POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Program Manager of Families and Wellness, the Family Development Supervisor will operate efficiently in accordance with the philosophies, policies, and objectives established by Management. The Family Development Supervisor will manage referrals to the Family Development team in close coordination with the Program Manager of Families and Wellness and the Quality Assurance team.

The Family Development Supervisor will assign Family Development Workers to referred clients and ensure all clients have access to services. As a supervisor, the position will be responsible for providing ongoing support and performance management of the Family Development team. The Family Development Supervisor will ensure strong cultural values, and programming that builds family bonds and resilience as well as a grounding in culture and community supports. The Family Development Supervisor will monitor the weekly and monthly budgets.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Supervision and leadership:

Provide overall supervision of the Family Development team.
Supervision of direct reports which includes:
ensure adequate staffing for family needs, with qualified employees, to meet program and policy requirements.work planning, scheduling, payroll processing and assessment of staffing needs;hiring/promotion, staff development, coaching/mentoring and assisting with performance management reviews.
monitor and ensure teams are charting and reporting on clients;
ensure that all staff within the applicable programs have the appropriate training, credentials, oath of confidentiality, criminal record checks, and other documentation as required by SIB or relevant licensing bodies.
conflict resolution, and assisting with discipline, and termination recommendations.
organize debriefings with the team;
authorizing leaves of absence;
evaluating the work of staff and volunteers to ensure that programs are of appropriate quality and that resources are used effectively; and
promote shared team goals and collaboration among members; Assist with preparing annual operating and capital budgets pertaining to division in consultation with the Program Manager.
Monitor overall performance of division against the program plan.
Administer/monitor the approved annual budget including authorization of expenditures.
Prepare and assist in the preparation of reports and recommendations for the Program Manager and stakeholders.
Attend Committee, community and other public meetings and events as required.
Make presentations and provide advice/guidance on division related issues and strategies, new/pending legislation, and regulatory guidelines.
Initiate actions and coordinate and monitor assigned tasks emerging from meetings as directed by the Program Manager
Accountable to ensure staff are knowledgeable of applicable health and safety legislation, are trained to act appropriately in emergency situations, practice safe program delivery, and operate equipment and materials safely utilizing safe work practices.
Ensure that documented procedural information is available and that necessary reports/follow-up to near misses and incidents are completed in a timely manner and reported accordingly.

Family Development

Plan, execute and promote Family Development and division hosted events.
Develop new programming to maximize the use of facilities and resources for community groups and the public to meet needs and maximize potential usage of the facility.
Work in partnership with other departments and stakeholders to market and promote Seabird Island and its events.
Overseeing division events at Seabird Island including programming, scheduling, and documentation.
Ensure that all program staff are always up-to-date and familiar with all applicable governing and funding policies, including the Seabird HR Policy.
Make referrals to various programs and services based on family needs,

Relationship and team building.

Work respectfully, positively, professionally, and collaboratively with team members and all levels of Seabird Island.
Demonstrate behaviors, actions and attitudes that are consistent with Seabird Island’s vision, mission, culture, and values.
Provide opportunities for the enhancement and development of positive cultural identities of the staff and clients.
Ensure effective and professional communications with all internal and external service providers, committees, and workgroups.

Duties and Accountabilities

Cultivate professionalism, diligence and dedication in staff, ensuring quality program delivery at all times.
Compile and submit monthly reports to the Health and Social Development Director, containing both narrative and statistical information.
Participate in case conferences related to family development/child protection issues.
Develop and deliver various workshops based on the needs of the families in the programs.
Advocate on behalf of families.
Alert the Health and Social Development Director of any concerns. Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Manager, Director, Executive Director, or Chief & Council.

WHAT YOU BRING

Education

Bachelor's degree in social work, Counselling, or related field is required.

Experience/Skills

Three to five years’ supervisory experience of multi-disciplinary staff; Directly related supervisory experience in a First Nations Child and Family Services position.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in applied social work or child and family services; A detailed and professional understanding of family dynamics, intergenerational trauma, healthy parenting models;
Experience in training and developing staff;
Understanding of the family structure and systems to solve complex family and relationship issues
Ability to direct activity and programming that support family members in building self-worth, resilience and boundaries;
An understanding of the standard expectations of the counselling profession; Strong cultural values and grounding and the ability to nurture this in others;
Ability to lead by example;
Ability to balance competing priorities, multitask, and to work under pressure; Able to demonstrate flexibility and creativity when called upon;

Requirements 

Must be available for varied shifts, including some evenings and weekends.
Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.)
Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures, etc.
Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language or willingness to learn.
Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
Valid BC Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract within the last 5 years.
