Aboriginal Infant Development Support Worker

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the MCFD Manager, the Aboriginal Infant Development Program (AIDP) Support Worker will work in licensed Childcare centers with Indigenous children who are requiring extra support to attend the program, while applying principals of family-centered practice. The AIDP Support Worker will set individual program plans and activities for children from birth to the age of 3. with families and center staff. The AIDP support Worker will work with related agencies and professionals and works independently to maintain client caseload and group facilitation as required.

What you’ll do
Provide support to children 0-3 who require it within a childcare facility to assess infant development and plan with parents/families to stimulate or enhance optimal development strategies and monitor their progress. Administer developmental assessments and draft reports and recommendations. Assessments may include the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) Screening and Day C ScreeningFacilitate the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual service plans for children that reflect the choices and priorities identified by their families.
Draft monthly reports on accomplishments, concerns, and activities with clients
Draft various reports and other necessary documentation
Act as a resource person to parents/families and blend traditional and contemporary parenting practices.
Advocate for parents/families and increase community awareness of the needs of AIDP.
Plan and work with a multi-disciplinary team.
Contribute to communication resources such as newsletters, flyers, pamphlets, and calendar of events.
Act as a role model for healthy lifestyle choices and demonstrate respect for people of all ages.
Demonstrate expertise related to: Infant child health; typical and atypical growth and
development; strategies and appropriate early intervention for supporting infant and young children with special needs or at risk of developmental delay.
Possess knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques.
Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, Executive Director, or Chief & Council.
What you bring
Education
License to practice in Early Childhood education in BC. Current Infant Toddler Certification in BC. Diploma in Special Needs and Disabilities considered an Asset.Experience/Skills
Experience and training in inclusive, family-centered service delivery, child development and early intervention. Ability to develop, implement and evaluate child-centered intervention plans. Must be able to demonstrate expertise related to: Infant child health; typical and atypical growth and development; strategies and appropriate early intervention for supporting infant and young children with special needs or at risk of developmental delay. Strong time management and organizational skills Must be a mature individual who demonstrates assertiveness, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, children, and families and who’ll work in partnership with other programs and resources. Ability to develop and maintain a warm, trusting, caring, supportive, collaborative relationship with the children and their families. Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and non-judgmental attitude.Ability to work independently, be reliable and highly motivated.
Physically able to perform all assigned tasks.
Ability to maintain accurate and detailed client records and draft monthly reports. Current Child Care Facilities and Licensing approved First Aide Certification
Proficient computer skills with the Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.)
Proficient interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
Ability to agree as well as adhere to Seabird Island Band Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Information Technology (IT) Policies and Procedures, etc.
Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó: lō culture, traditions and language or willingness to learn.
Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset.
Valid BC Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract within the last 5 years.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRRP)
